The Network of African Science Academies (NASAC), is an independent African forum that brings together several academies of science in the continent to discuss the scientific aspects of problems of common concern. NASAC frequently signs common statements on various issues relevant to Africa and also provides mutual support to the member academies. NASAC was formed on December 31, 2001 through the initative of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS), The Inter Academies Panel (IAP), and nine other prominent and merit based Academies in Africa that have been listed below: - The African Academy of Sciences

- The Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences
- The Kenya National Academy of Sciences
- Madagascar's National Academy of Arts, Letters and Sciences
- The Nigerian Academy of Sciences
- l'Académie des Sciences et Techniques du Sénégal
- The Uganda National Academy of Sciences
- The Academy of Science of South Africa
The AAS, having initiated the process of forming the Network, agreed to host the NASAC Secretariat. The current NASAC membership currently stands at 13 Academies distributed over the whole continent with the following academies in Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Sudan being inaugurated as members. - The Tanzania Academy of Sciences
